Jim brings thirty years of teaching and school leadership to The Gate School — including fifteen years as Founding Principal and School Director of East End Preparatory School, one of Tennessee's highest-performing open enrollment charter schools. Under his leadership, East End built a track record of closing achievement gaps and elevating outcomes for a student body that is majority economically disadvantaged, earning recognition as a model for what rigorous, high-quality public schooling can look like for every child.

A skilled builder of school systems, Jim has deep expertise in instructional leadership, data-driven improvement, operations, and governance. He is known for developing strong faculty, constructing the organizational infrastructure schools need to sustain excellence, and forging the kind of community partnerships that make a school genuinely rooted in the neighborhood it serves. As co-founder of The Gate School, Jim brings that same founding energy and hard-won experience to a new chapter — and a new school.
